A Little Glimpse of What's On My Desk

this weekend ... adding endpapers to books I'm creating.

Equal to my passion for writing and journaling is my passion for creating books! I started out with the intention of creating my own journals, but my love of bookbinding has grown, and now it has become one of my favourite ways to express my creativity.

I’m doing a course, The Art of Bookbinding, with the most amazing book artist, Moneeza Kahn. The latest lessons have all been about decorating the fore edges of the books with inks and gold leaf; and inserting endpapers.

Moneeza describes endpapers thus … “Endpapers are like the gatekeepers of your book's world, they hold the cover and book-block together, they can be plain or decorative and can also feature a bookplate.”

The Chiyogami Blue Rice Flower paper I used in this book is one of my favourites. In fact, I love it so much, that I’ve just gone to the bookbinding supplies online store and bought more of this gorgeous Chiyogami paper in different designs (far too much … but I couldn’t resist all the gorgeous patterns and colours!).

I’m growing quite the pile of book blocks … I can’t wait to get onto the next lesson … actually putting on the covers!!

The books have all different sorts of paper … handmade Khadi papers and gorgeous watercolour papers.

Once these books are completed, they will be available to buy in my Folksy shop.
